I am Alina Iftime, a visual artist born in Romania, currently working in the charming oldtown of Marbach am Neckar, Germany.

My artistic expression involves different materials and techniques, including pencils, oil paints, clay, wood or metal.

I studied sculpture, mosaic and painting and I am a self taught jewelry artist, but I discovered that the best way to express myself is through drawing and painting. With this in mind, I created a character, an alter-ego, and named it Sophilia.

Sophilia is the visual expression of my inner self, and the art you will see here is made while exploring the different layers of my mind, from diving deep into the unconscious, to experiencing the most ephemeral sensations.

A metaphysical being living at the edge of the reality, Sophilia has a myriad of avatars, each one a visual metaphor of my feelings, struggles or visions. Her world is made up of her thoughts and feelings, materialized into intricate shapes or eerie landscapes, placed into that parallel space and time inhabited by both my depression and my dreams.You will see children, demons, friendly creatures, or scary ones, shadows or stones, they are one, one being with one name.

My works usually begin with a vague image, a vision that appears suddenly in my mind, and whose meaning I usually do not understand until after the work is finished. Sometimes new ideas appear along the way and ask for a place in the work, sometimes I revisit old ideas and materialize them using different techniques.

My art is my creative journey towards discovering, expressing and improving myself.

Born in 1981 in Braila, Romania
2001-2002 studied sculpture with Romanian sculptor Gavril Nichitean in his studio in Iasi, Romania
2002-2003 worked as mosaic artist at Art Georgies Iasi, where she created glass mosaic icons for different churches in Romania
2002-2006 studied Philosophy at Al. I. Cuza University Iasi, Romania

2010 opened RockTime Handmade, a little home studio where she created unique handmade jewelry 
2011-2016 studied painting with Prof. Dorin Lehaci at Titel Popovici School of Art Iasi, Romania and participated in group exhibitions in Iasi (2013-2016), Suceava (2014, 2016) and Braila (2015)

2012-2013 organized a series of art and handmade fairs under the name The Handmade Zone

2016 moved to Germany 

2021 opened Atelier Sophilia, an art studio and gallery in Marbach am Neckar
